One of the things that Raeni and I talk about a lot during this time in our lives is how we view ourselves in this endeavor. We hear things like, “wow, I could never do that,” “you must be something special” or things like that. The problem with those statements is that if we are not careful we may start doing the very destructive thing of believing those statements.
The truth is our lives are not our own. We have come to that realization and it makes this decision an easier one to swallow. When we committed out lives, marriage, and family to Christ we knew that it was all His. Did we ENvision this are our future? No, in fact it was never something we desired. We didn’t dream of living in Paris or anywhere else for that matter. What we dreamed of was following God fully surrendered to His will for our lives.
And honestly that is what we are doing. And that is what you are called to do. We are doing nothing that Christ doesn’t ask all of us to do. Follow Me. That’s what Christ asks. Follow Me. I knew that. But I never knew what or where that meant until He revealed it to us. I have always like the idea of cross cultural missions….for someone else. But when Christ say, “follow me,” I truly must follow where He leads. If I say no to Him, and head off on a different path, I am no longer following him. I am following myself and you garuntee that I will lead me in the wrong direction.
No you may not be called to Paris, Africa, Asia, South America, then again maybe you are. But this I can say for certain, you are called to follow Christ. And if you follow Christ fully in all you do, then you and I are no different. The sacrifice my family makes to make this move is big but the sacrifice your family makes to follow Christ is big also.
So let’s agree with this. We all follow Christ. Where you follow doesn’t matter as much as if you follow.
