Countdown to Christmas

So the countdown to Christmas is well underway. We see it every year creep further and further back. Christmas decorations begin to line the streets before Halloween and Christmas music starts playing beginning early in November. Honestly, I love the advent season. I love the anticipation it brings. My favorite Christmas song is O’ Come O’ Come Emmanuel which echoes back to the long awaited arrival of the messiah for Israel. This time of advent we remember the arrival of Christ as newborn child but also long for His return as conquering king. We long for the day He returns to call us home.

But this countdown to Christmas has been different for me. It has been the countdown to Christmas plus two for me. December 27th as our departure date means we are now as of this writing just 16 days from our departure date.  Sixteen days. Let that sink in a bit. What do you normally do in a span of just over two weeks? What did your last two weeks look like? That is the remaining time we have in the United States before for we start this new thing God has called us to in Paris France. That thought stirs up a bunch of emotions in me and even more so in Raeni and Fayth and Hannah. Questions arise, last minute details pop up, check boxes need to be checked, bags need to be packed, good-byes need to be said, and the list goes on. There are many things that need to be done and 16 days left to do them. Scratch that 15 days since this one is mostly over. 15 days. Wow that changes everything. Actually of those 15 days we still have 5 here in Colorado, so all those things above and more have to be done in 10 days. Then in there is Christmas, and Christmas Eve and Raeni’s family’s Christmas, so I am guessing we have a solid 7 days we can arrange all the details we need to arrange.

How do you move overseas? What things do you pack? What things do you leave? What???????????????????????? So many questions.

So the countdown continues…..
